Fulbright alumni serve in Vietnam's new cabinet
On August 3, Mr. Nguyen Thien Nhan and Mr. Pham Binh Minh , alumni of the Fulbright Vietnamese Student Program, were sworn in as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs for the next five years.
A former professor of economics, Mr. Nguyen Thien Nhan had served as Minister of Education and Training and then Deputy Prime Minister in the last term. He received a Master's Degree in Public Administration from the University of Oregon under the Fulbright program. A career diplomat, Mr. Pham Binh Minh received a Fulbright Scholarship in 1992 and studied Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University, Medford, Massachusetts. Prior the appointment, Mr. Pham Binh Minh was Standing Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs. He was also Deputy Chief of Mission at the Vietnamese Embassy in the U.S. 2001-2003.
